Electoral propaganda is silenced by the provisions of the Code of Democracy that governs Ecuador.

Violations and sanctions for those who do not comply as politicians or citizens are clear. Proselytism, violation of the dry law, failure to vote or join electoral committees are contained in the law and are part of obligations, but also individual responsibility.

Election silence is scheduled from today until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, so that voters can make a decision without the noise of propaganda. Although social networks are not controlled, it would be desirable for politicians to adhere to the norm, not because there is a sanction behind it, but out of maturity and respect for voters. Those who want to direct the destiny of a country must first respect the laws and institutions.

Reflection is not the same as selective silence

Supporters of any of the candidacies should also make an effort and allow everyone time to analyze their vote in the peace of real electoral silence.

For election day, the ATM will have 959 agents near the constituencies, the CNE headquarters and the main avenues of Guayaquil

At the risk of being mistaken, we must insist with some sector that laws are in place to be obeyed. However, it is up to the State Electoral Council (CNE) to strictly control all areas in order to ensure transparency in these extraordinary elections.

In the past, care was even taken to ensure that the areas near the polling stations were clean of propaganda.

Officials of election delegations are key in control, as are members of the public forces and observers of the process.

Security is another key axis for the confident turnout of citizens to the elections this Sunday. Armed forces are expected to take control of 3,950 polling stations last night and a total of more than 100,000 security officers will be deployed, according to the government. Just as voting is a citizen’s obligation, giving the state the peace to fulfill it is a state’s duty. (OR)
