Russian leader Vladimir Putin will take part in all the activities of the BRICS summit online. This was told by the Sherpa of South Africa in the Anil Suklal association, RBC reports.

He noted that four of the five BRICS leaders will personally attend the summit in South Africa. Only Putin will participate in the event via video link. He will join the meeting on the evening of 22 August and will participate in closed and open sessions on 23 August.

The BRICS summit will be attended by Brazilian President Lula da Silva, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. The event will take place from 22 to 24 August 2023 in Johannesburg. On the first day there will be a business forum, then the BRICS leaders will meet each other in a closed session.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian delegation in Johannesburg will be headed by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Putin will not go to the BRICS summit – this decision was made “by mutual agreement”, the South African authorities specified.
