Poland will be guided by its own interests in the issue of banning the import of Ukrainian agricultural products, President Andrzej Duda said in an interview with Sieci. At the moment, the borders of Poland are closed for the import of Ukrainian grain until September 15.

“Obviously, we consistently support Ukraine in defense. <…> But the second – and this is our most important duty – to defend the interests of the republic. This is the protection of the internal market and the market of the European Union, which begins with us,” Duda said.

Warsaw decided to ban the import of Ukrainian grain on April 15 this year. As noted by the leader of the ruling Law and Justice party, Jarosław Kaczynski, the measure is aimed at protecting the Polish agricultural sector. The transit of Ukrainian agricultural products through the Polish territory is allowed.

In addition to Poland, a similar measure was introduced by Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania, it was approved by the European Commission. All of them border on Ukraine.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in June that Warsaw would not lift the restriction after September 15. He pointed out that if such a decision is not supported by the European Commission, then Poland will accept it anyway.
