Ukrainian authorities are not sure that Washington and other partners will always support Kyiv, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova said in an interview with The Huffington Post.
She spoke about this in the context of criticism of the request of US President Joe Biden to allocate another $ 24 billion to support Ukraine and countries affected by the conflict.
“I cannot say that we are sure that unequivocally support – even when it is – is given forever. No, this is a permanent job,” Markarova said.
According to the diplomat, against the backdrop of criticism of aid to Ukraine in the United States, Kyiv is open to more careful monitoring of the allocated funds: “We stand for transparency and accountability. Whatever extra steps your people come up with… and whatever Congress needs to do, we’re open and ready, and we’re already doing it. Whatever additional requirements there may be, we are, of course, ready to discuss them.”
Markarova added that the US has three monitors tracking more than $75 billion of previously approved aid to Ukraine at the Department of Defense, the State Department and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). She noted that they found no evidence of widespread abuse, acknowledging the difficulty in keeping records during a conflict.
