Poland is building up its military presence in the area of the Suwalki corridor and on the border with Belarus. This was stated by the Minister of National Defense of Poland Mariusz Blaszczak.
“The Suwalki corridor and the Brest Gate are sensitive points, so we are strengthening and expanding the units stationed there. It is there that the latest equipment is sent first of all, ”the minister said, cited by Interfax.
The minister clarified that “the reinforcement is taking place both in the tactical dimension, including additional fighters and new equipment, and in the strategic dimension through the creation of new units of various levels.” Including “we are talking about the sapper battalion in Augustow and large tactical formations, such as the 1st Infantry Division of the Legions and the 2nd Polish Corps.” Also, Poland will transfer 10 thousand soldiers to the border with Belarus, while “4 thousand will directly contribute to the border guards.” Even in Poland, “several thousand US soldiers equipped with the best military equipment” are deployed, the minister specified.
In addition, the Territorial Defense Forces operate in the east of Poland.
