Drinking coffee within an hour of waking up is harmful. This was stated by the family doctor Tatyana Zakharova, writes Medikforum.
According to the doctor, the first coffee intake can affect the level of vigilance or increase tolerance to caffeine.
“When we wake up, our cortisol levels are at their peak. Cortisol, often associated with stress, increases alertness levels. So consuming caffeine when cortisol levels are already high can work against it or even help build caffeine tolerance,” Dr. She advises waiting at least an hour after waking up before taking a dose of caffeine.
According to Zakharova, the last coffee intake is allowed at 14:00, so as not to harm sleep. She explained that even five to seven hours after a cup of coffee, half of the caffeine is still in the body.
The doctor does not advise giving up coffee at all, because this drink is effective against neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease.
