A criminal case has been submitted to the court in Moscow against officers of the Russian army – Major Dmitry Dmitrakov and Lieutenant Colonel Anatoly Bondarev, who, according to the investigation, could not prevent the shelling of their unit by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The newspaper, referring to the data of the investigation, notes that the officers are charged under the article “violation of the rules for carrying out combat duty to detect and repel a surprise attack on the Russian Federation, which entailed grave consequences” – the article is used for the first time in Russian judicial practice.
According to the investigation, on April 27, 2022, there were reports of explosions and fires near the village of Staraya Nelidovka, including at the ammunition depot. Violations by Dmitrakov led to the death of seven servicemen and the injury of 43 others. In addition, 15 units of military equipment were destroyed and 30 damaged, the cost of which is estimated at 89 million rubles.
The defendants face ten years in prison. Dmitrakov is under arrest, whether any measure of restraint has been chosen for Bondarev is unknown, the article notes. One of the commanders of the unit, Lieutenant Colonel Bondarev, also appears in the case.
The trial will be held behind closed doors, the publication suggests.
