Poland will launch an electronic barrier on the border with Russia by the end of September

Poland has begun testing an electronic barrier on the border with Russia – it is planned that it will be fully operational by the end of September, according to the Polish Border Guard.

According to Interfax, a representative of the department told reporters that testing the first of twelve sections of the electronic barrier. The next sections will be taken consecutively in the coming weeks. According to the representative of the border guard, “All containers are installed at the border, linking the protective systems together.” In addition, the construction of the Surveillance Center at the headquarters of the Warmia and Mazury branch of the Border Guard in the city of Kętrzyn is nearing completion, where signals from cameras and sensors will be received.

The ministry also noted that during the entire time the barrier was erected, “it was calm at the border, there were no incidents, and unlike the situation when a barrier was also erected on the border with Belarus, there were no cases of equipment destruction.”

Poland began building an electronic fence on the border with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation in April 2023. The system of cameras and motion sensors will operate along approximately 200 km of the land border.
