During the 2023 admission campaign, St. Petersburg universities received 797,000 applications from applicants, including 567,000 for state-funded places. For comparison, last year educational institutions received 776,000 applications, of which 565,000 were for state-funded places.
Alexey Demidov, Chairman of the Council of Rectors of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region Universities, Rector of the St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technology and Design, spoke about this at a press conference.
According to him, several St. Petersburg universities have not enrolled a sufficient number of students for the allocated budget places and will conduct additional enrollments. Demidov refused to specify which universities these were.
Competition in St. Petersburg among applicants for the budget amounted to an average of 19 people per place. At the same time, according to Demidov, there are absolute leaders. For example, among technical universities, St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation has the most competition – it has 31 people per place.
The share of non-resident applicants in St. Petersburg for state-funded places was 76%. Last year, among enrolled students, the proportion of nonresident students was 70%.
