In Tyumen, a patient of one of the hospitals raped a health worker. Later, after examinations, it turned out that he also infected the victim with HIV infection, writes 72.ru.

The investigation has been ongoing since 2019. All this time the rapist was in custody.

By court decision, the rapist received 4 years and 10 months in prison under two different articles – on infection with HIV, which provides for up to a year in prison, and on rape, which threatens up to six years in prison. According to the totality of these articles, the maximum punishment that a convict could receive is six years in a colony. At the same time, the article on rape provides for imprisonment for a period of 8 to 15 years if, as a result of rape, the victim received HIV infection.

Taking into account the period of detention and a lenient sentence, the convict can leave the colony as early as 2024.

In total, according to experts, more than a million people with HIV now live in the Russian Federation, and not all of them know about their status. At the end of 2022, Russia entered the top five countries in the world in terms of the spread of HIV infection, overtaking Tanzania and Uganda.
