Stones in the streets of the historic center of Quito receive maintenance; some roads are still closed due to work

Several main roads in the center of the capital continue to be closed due to adaptation works.

The historic stones that adorn the streets of downtown Quito they receive a maintenance process. The Metropolitan Heritage Institute is the one that carries out the work taking into account that they are part of the city’s heritage.

With a $ 80,000 budget the intervention is carried out in the following ways:

  • Manabí (Venezuela-Benalcázar)
  • Caldas (Vargas-Venezuela)
  • Carchi (García Moreno-Benalcázar)
  • Galapagos (Benalcázar-Venezuela)
  • Venezuela (Loja-Rocafuerte)
  • Aymerich (all the climb to Panecillo)
  • Guayaquil and Montúfar (sole platform for the Trolleybus circulation).
  • Pothole in Solano street.

Mayor Santiago Guarderas indicated that will carry out similar tasks throughout the Metropolitan District of Quito (DMQ). “This is the example of what we are going to do, this is the beginning,” he said.

In addition, he pointed out that it is important keep the city orderly, safe and clean, with respect to organized autonomous trade. This, after several clashes that municipal control agents have had with informal vendors in various sectors of the capital.

The works consist of the removal of stones and loose material, compaction, excavation for berms, placement of concrete berms, ashlar stone reuse and cleaning. (I)
