President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine Vadim Gutzeit announced the possible consideration of the refusal to boycott the competitions in which Russian athletes take part. Gutzeit’s comment is cited by the Public edition, TASS reports.

“Of course, we need to participate now in all qualifying competitions. If Russia and Belarus are not officially invited to the 2024 Olympic Games, we are now considering the return of our athletes to qualifying competitions. The non-invitation of Russia and Belarus to the Olympics does not mean that athletes from these countries cannot compete at the Games in Paris in a neutral status,” Gutzeit said.

On April 18, the press service of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine announced that it would deprive the country’s sports federations of their national status if their athletes participate in international competitions where representatives of Russia and Belarus compete. At a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, a resolution was adopted to introduce appropriate changes to the provision on granting a sports federation a national status on a competitive basis and depriving such a status. On July 12, Gutzeit announced that Ukrainian athletes would continue to boycott international competitions involving Russians and Belarusians.
