The heads of two committees of the Federation Council spoke out against the decision of the deputies to leave 18 years as the lower bar for the draft age. Senators are pushing for her to be raised to 21.
The head of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security, Viktor Bondarev, commented on the amendment approved by the relevant committee of the State Duma for the second reading of the bill on changing the limits of military age. The amendment provides for maintaining the lower limit of the draft age at 18 years, while raising the upper limit to 30 years.
“In my opinion, what Russian Defense Minister Sergei Kuzhugetovich Shoigu spoke about at the board and what was supported by Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin should be fixed: the lower limit of the military age should be 21 years old, the upper one should be 30 years old,” Bondarev wrote in the Telegram channel. “If you do not touch the lower limit, then it is advisable to leave the upper one the same, so as not to violate the proportions, not to artificially prolong the draft age. This is logical and fair,” he added.
“I fully agree with my colleague senator, Hero of Russia Viktor Bondarev. The general rule is 21 years old and 30 years old is the age of conscription,” Andrei Klishas, head of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, said in his Telegram channel.
Recall, on the eve of the head of the Duma Defense Committee Andrei Kartapolov said that the lower limit of the draft age will remain the same, they will be drafted into the Russian army from the age of 18.
