Part of the Western weapons and equipment sent to the Ukrainian army was stolen by criminal organizations, volunteers and arms dealers. Subsequently, the missing was returned, according to the report of the US Pentagon Inspector General, reports CNN. The TV channel received the report under the Freedom of Information Act.

The report provides examples of crimes. In particular, last June, a group of criminals posed as humanitarian workers and stole body armor worth a total of $17,000. In August, a group of volunteer battalion fighters stole 60 rifles and almost 1,000 rounds of ammunition and stored them in a warehouse, “presumably for sale on the black market.”

The document covers the period from February to September last year. It says that the plans of the attackers were suppressed by the Ukrainian special services. At the same time, it is noted that Kyiv “failed to conduct the required monitoring of the end use of military equipment that the United States provided to Ukraine in fiscal year 2022.” In addition, the Pentagon’s ability to track and control all transferred US weapons, as required by the export control law, was hampered by the limited US presence in the country.
