The UK has expanded sanctions against individuals and entities from Russia. According to the updated version of the “black list” published on the website of the United Kingdom Foreign Ministry, eight Russians and five companies in the Central African Republic, Sudan and Mali, allegedly associated with the Wagner PMC, were subject to restrictions.
Thus, the sanctions affected Yevgeny Prigozhin’s M Invest, which is allegedly engaged in gold mining in Sudan, the Sudanese Maroe Gold and Al-Solag Mining Company, as well as Lobaye Invest Sarlu and Sewa Security, operating in the Central African Republic – they are allegedly “engaged in activities that undermine peace and stability” in the country, according to the text, excerpts are cited by TASS.
The UK Foreign Office said in a statement that all of the companies mentioned are linked to the Wagner PMC. The list also includes eight people whom the British Foreign Office considers to be employees of Prigozhin’s structures or commanders of Wagner PMC units.
Recall that on June 23, the head of Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, announced a “march of justice” to Moscow. In the Kremlin, this was regarded as an armed rebellion. The situation was resolved after negotiations with the participation of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko by the evening of June 24. Under the terms of the agreement, Yevgeny Prigozhin must leave for Belarus. After that, the Russian authorities dropped the criminal case on the rebellion and promised not to prosecute the PMC fighters. On June 29, President Vladimir Putin held a meeting in the Kremlin with Prigozhin and the commanders of the Wagner PMC. Currently, the “Wagnerites”, as reported by the Belarusian Ministry of Defense, together with the Belarusian army, are working out joint tasks at the Brestsky training ground near the border with Poland.
