Hungary will impose an embargo on the import of Ukrainian grain unilaterally if the European Commission does not extend at least until the end of the year a general ban on its supplies to five Central European countries, Hungarian Minister of Agriculture Istvan Nagy said at a press conference after a meeting in Warsaw with colleagues from Bulgaria, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

He recalled that a general ban on the import of grain and oilseeds from Ukraine to neighboring EU countries is valid until mid-September. “The September 15 deadline is unacceptable for us,” Nadya TASS quotes the statement.

The Minister said that the five countries of Central Europe agreed to jointly apply to the EC with a demand to extend this ban until the end of the year. “If it is not extended at least until December 21, then Hungary itself will use all its means to protect Hungarian farmers,” the minister warned.

Recall that earlier the Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki, who was present at the meeting, also said that his country would not open its borders for Ukrainian grain on September 15 and would retain permission only for their transit through its territory.
