A powerful downpour took place in Moscow on Tuesday, in less than an hour, up to 23 mm of rain fell, the press service of the municipal economy complex reports.
“In the period from 14:00 to 15:00, super-intense rainfall hit the city. In some areas, more than a quarter of the normal rainfall fell in less than an hour, ”the report says.
According to the mayor’s office, the heaviest showers were recorded in the Central (23 mm), North-Eastern (22 mm) and Northern (21 mm) administrative districts. Wind gusts in the south of the capital reached 20 m/s, in the northeast – 15 m/s.
In turn, emergency services reported that in the capital cases of flooding of two dozen streets in different parts of the city were recorded. Gusts of wind knocked down several dozen trees, there are damaged cars. There were no casualties as a result of the thunderstorm that hit Moscow.
According to eyewitnesses, a thunderstorm stopped the largest Ferris wheel in Europe – the “Sun of Moscow” at VDNKh.
Also, the Metropolitan Department of Transportation reported delays to several ground public transport routes due to leaning trees and water accumulated on roads and tram tracks.
