The Chinese Ministry of Defense accused the United States of militarizing space amid the freezing of bilateral military contacts, the Associated Press reports.
Chinese military spokesman Tan Kefei said Washington has “accelerated the militarization of outer space” in recent years. At the same time, he stressed that China “advocates the peaceful use of outer space and strongly opposes the deployment of weapons and the transformation of outer space into a battlefield, as well as an arms race in outer space in any form.”
Tan Kefei also noted that US actions, including the creation of a separate space force in 2019, “had the highest negative impact on space security and global strategic stability.”
Recall, the day before, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met in Indonesia with Wang Yi, head of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee.
