Turkey said that Ankara gave Moscow an explanation about the transfer of Azov commanders to Kyiv

Ankara gave explanations to Moscow regarding the transfer of the commanders of the Azov battalion (recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia – approx. ed.) Kyiv. This was stated in an interview with the Habertürk TV channel by the official representative of the ruling Justice and Development Party in Turkey, Omer Celik.

He explained that the Turkish side provided appropriate explanations, the situation became clearer. According to Celik, there is no tension in relations between Ankara and Moscow.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he intends to personally discuss with Russian President Vladimir Putin the return of Azov battalion commanders from Turkey to Ukraine if he arrives in the country in August. Erdogan specified that Ankara had received a request for the release of six commanders. The Turkish authorities eventually gave a positive answer.

In the Kremlin, the incident was regarded as a violation of the agreements on the part of Kyiv and Ankara. It was noted that the “Azov” were to remain in Turkey until the end of hostilities under the terms of the exchange.
