Polish President Andrzej Duda expressed hope that Ukraine will become a member of NATO in a few years, and called the current decision of the alliance member countries on Ukraine “completely insufficient.”

“I hope that in a few years Ukraine will become a full member of our alliance, the NATO bloc,” Duda told reporters on Wednesday, commenting on the NATO leaders’ decision on Ukraine’s membership in Vilnius.

At the same time, when asked how he assesses this agreement, Duda said that “in his opinion, this is absolutely not enough.” According to him, the decisions adopted on Tuesday did not add clarity to the issue of Ukraine’s accession to NATO. He added that because of them “it is very difficult to draw up a schedule and it is almost impossible now to talk about the full membership of Ukraine.”

At the same time, the politician stressed that Ukraine’s accession is currently impossible due to the ongoing conflict and collective defense obligations in the Alliance.

Recall that the day before, the leaders of the alliance came to an agreement that Ukraine would be invited to join NATO when all the countries of the bloc agree on this, and Kyiv fulfills certain conditions. The Alliance decided not to demand a Membership Action Plan (MAP) from Ukraine, decided to establish the Ukraine-NATO Council and approved a long-term plan to support the armed forces of Ukraine.
