Ukraine will not be taken into NATO now, so as not to draw the United States into a conflict with the Russian Federation. This was stated by the official representative of the State Department Matthew Miller.
In his opinion, it would be “wrong” to accept Ukraine during a military conflict.
“That would mean that the US would be at war with Russia – President Joe Biden has made it clear that this will not happen under his leadership,” Miller was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reported that NATO allies agreed to simplify the process of Ukraine’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance. He clarified that instead of a two-step process, it would be a one-step process. Stoltenberg stressed that the invitation to Ukraine to join NATO will be when the allies come to the conclusion that all conditions are met.
Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky himself said that NATO countries are probably not ready to invite Ukraine to NATO or make it a member of the alliance. According to Zelensky, a situation in which there are no specific deadlines for either one or the other is absurd and unprecedented.
Recall that the NATO summit is being held in Vilnius on July 11-12.
