NATO calls on Russia to immediately and without preconditions withdraw its forces from the territory of Ukraine. This was stated in the final statement after the first day of the summit in Vilnius.
According to the document cited by RIA Novosti, Russia must immediately “stop using force against Ukraine and completely and without preconditions withdraw all its forces and equipment from the territory of Ukraine within internationally recognized borders.”
The alliance also said that they would never recognize the “annexations” undertaken by the Russian Federation, including the annexation of Crimea, the agency notes.
NATO believes that the Russian Federation bears full responsibility for the conflict, and continues to condemn its “violation” of international law. NATO also accused Belarus and Iran of “complicity” of the Russian Federation.
It also became known that NATO countries will deploy additional forces in the east of Europe, increasing units to brigade size if necessary. It is specified that eight multinational battle groups have been created.
Recall that the NATO summit is being held in Vilnius on July 11-12.
