Early onset of sexual activity can cause depression. This conclusion was made by scientists from Peking University, the results of the study were published in The Journal of Affective Disorders.
Experts analyzed information from large databases. The sample for studying the age of first sexual intercourse was 406,457 people. The results of the study revealed an association between early onset of sexual activity, a large number of sexual partners and depressive disorder.
Analysis of the data showed that early sexual intercourse (between 12 and 14 years) and having more sexual partners increase the likelihood of depression. At the same time, the results showed that each additional year of delay in the first intercourse was associated with a 6% reduction in the risk of a depressive disorder.
Experts did not give explanations for this phenomenon.
Earlier, American psychologists also stated that early sexual experience contributes to the development of teenage depression. Russian scientists came to similar conclusions: in their opinion, too early sexual life adversely affects the psyche of young people, the primamedia.ru portal wrote.
