Russia will continue the dialogue with Turkey, despite the fact that it considers the return of Azov commanders to Ukraine (the organization is recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in Russia – ed. ed.) violation of existing agreements. This was stated to journalists by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.
“We will discuss this with the Turkish side, as we, in fact, have already begun to do,” Peskov said, quoted by RBC. He added that the Kremlin will develop relations with Turkey, but will take into account the situation with the return of Ukrainian commanders to Kyiv in further agreements.
“We will use these channels of dialogue to clarify our position and take this situation into account in the next agreements in various areas,” Peskov said, stressing that recent events do not affect the creation of a gas hub. According to him, relations with Turkey are multifaceted, although there are certain issues on which there are differences, for example, the construction of a plant for the production of Bayraktar drones.
Earlier, we note that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the return of five Azov commanders from Turkey to their homeland. They ended up in Turkey after a prisoner exchange last fall. Ukraine then received 215 people, and Russia – 55 soldiers, as well as the Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk. At the same time, five Azov commanders were to remain in Turkey until the end of hostilities “under the personal guarantees of the Turkish president.”
