Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation with his American counterpart Joe Biden. The parties discussed the situation with the membership of Ukraine and Sweden in NATO and the issue of the supply of F-16 aircraft, the administration of the Turkish leader said.
According to the report, during the conversation, Erdogan said that “Sweden has taken some steps in the right direction by amending its anti-terrorist legislation, but the fact that supporters of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK/PYD/YPG) in Turkey continue to freely demonstrate praising terrorism makes the steps taken useless.”
In addition, the Turkish leader added that “it is wrong to link Turkey’s request for F-16s to Sweden’s membership, and thanked US President Biden for supporting Turkey’s request for F-16s.”
It is also reported that the politicians agreed to meet on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius and “discuss in detail bilateral relations between Turkey and the United States and regional issues.”
