A change in the sense of smell can signal cancer of the nose and paranasal sinuses. As Andrey Vorobyov, an oncologist, explained to MedikForum, any tumor that grows in the nasal cavity, the space behind the nose or the sinuses – small air-filled cavities inside the nose – can lead to an altered sense of smell.

So, one of the most common symptoms of cancer of the nose and paranasal sinuses is a decrease in the sense of smell. An additional symptom may be nasal congestion affecting only one side, which does not go away.

Another example is nosebleeds, or bloody mucus flowing from one nostril, or mucus running down the back of the nose and throat. Although these symptoms may be similar to a cold, in advanced stages the swelling can lead to constant pain or facial numbness.

In addition, a cancerous tumor can lead to swelling of the cervical glands, partial loss of vision, or double vision. Cancer of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses can also lead to bulging eyes, persistent watering, or pain and pressure in one ear. Also pay attention if you constantly get swelling or swelling on your face, nose, or palate.

The doctor stressed that any unusual or persistent symptom should be checked by a doctor.
