The French Foreign Ministry called groundless and unilateral statements by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), which demanded that Paris eliminate the systemic causes of racial discrimination in the police.

A statement on the ministry’s website stressed that France “disagrees with what it considers excessive comments [со стороны ООН] and regret that the unjustified violence perpetrated in recent days against the police and elected officials <…> was forgotten. Any allegations of racism or systemic discrimination by French law enforcement officials are unfounded,” the Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry also noted that France complies with the provisions of the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and the police “are subjected to a level of internal, external and judicial control that exists in only a few other countries.”

The agency urged the UN Committee “to exercise great discretion and restraint in its statements, which, unfortunately, are one-sided and approximate.”
