The announcement was made by the capital’s mayor, Santiago Guarderas, after a meeting with Executive authorities, on the issue of the omicron variant.
The Municipality of Quito announced that, given the epidemiological data of the coronavirus and at the request of the national Emergency Operations Committee (COE), it will be analyzed the possibility of suspending some events scheduled for the capital’s festivities.
According the mayor Santiago Guarderas, would be those where there is massive presence of people.
He added that they are going to increase vaccination points against coronavirus, as well as places for detection of COVID-19.
He mentioned that currently there are three inoculation sites and indicated that they will redouble controls in events that will be in open spaces, as there will be no events in closed places. There will also be online transmission.

“We are going to continue in this aggressive campaign, which we already started this weekend to demand that all events comply with biosecurity measures. We are asking that the mask be worn properly on a permanent basis (…), social distancing and the continuous use of gel in places where we do not have the possibility of continuously washing our hands available, ”Guarderas said at a press conference, together with government authorities.
