The Russian authorities are expelling 9 Finnish diplomats from the country. The decision was taken as a response to the confrontational policy of the Finnish authorities, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Also, from October 1, the Russian Federation withdraws its consent to the activities of the Consulate General of Finland in St. Petersburg.
Earlier, the Finnish Ambassador to Moscow, Antti Helanterya, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry. He was strongly protested because of the “anti-Russian policy of Helsinki,” said the official representative of the department, Maria Zakharova. She explained that the tightening of the entry regime for Russians announced by the Finnish authorities will not only be evaluated in Brussels, Washington and Kyiv, it will be taken into account in Moscow when planning further policy in the Finnish direction.
On the eve it was reported that Finland intends to tighten entry restrictions for Russians. The country’s authorities said that the travel of Russian citizens could further jeopardize the country’s international relations. It was noted that it was about the trips of Russian citizens to Finland and through Finland to other countries of the Schengen zone.
Note that from September 30, 2022, Finland significantly restricted the entry of Russian tourists until further notice.
