This noon they took the E-35, besieging the border province, as well as an alternate crossing.
Look, Carchi
This Tuesday, November 30, residents of the Mascarilla sector, in Mira (Carchi), blocked the two access roads to Carchi, leaving this northern jurisdiction under siege.
The residents demand the completion of works by the municipality of that canton and the Prefecture of Carchi.
Yesterday, at 07:00, the community members obstructed the alternative road to the E-35 that connects Imbabura with Carchi, in the Mascarilla-Mira-El Ángel-Bolívar section, in two places. Those points are still closed.
Today, instead, from noon they took the E-35, besieging the border province. Trees, tires and giant stones were placed on the road, which impede vehicular traffic.
Carlos Mora, driver of an interprovincial bus from the Tulcán cooperative, said that there are no guarantees to work due to the continuous stoppages that generate economic losses.
Betty Acosta, leader of the stoppage, said that another of the requests is the patching of the road. “The measure is indefinite, and nobody moves us from here until the prefect Guillermo Herrera and the mayor (of Mira) Johnny Garrido come to this place to fulfill their offers”, He said.
About twenty policemen remain at a safe distance trying to dialogue with the leadership. Meanwhile, the local authorities have not commented so far.
The blockade affects more than 200 vehicles that are stuck at the interprovincial boundary. (I)
