Russian electronic warfare systems are jamming Western multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS). This was stated by the head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry Oleksiy Reznikov in an interview with the British Financial Times.
According to him, this includes American HIMARS, as well as GPS-guided artillery ammunition.
“The Russians come up with countermeasures, we inform our partners about this, and they take new countermeasures against these countermeasures,” Reznikov said, quoted by Kommersant. He added that a similar approach is being used to improve the effectiveness of reconnaissance and attack drones. UAVs are used on an “unprecedented scale” but are also often jammed by Russian electronic warfare. “It’s like a permanent pendulum. This is a technology war,” Reznikov said.
He added that the Kyiv authorities have recently entered into maintenance contracts with defense companies in the UK, France and Germany – Babcock International, Nexter Systems and Rheinmetall.
CNN previously reported that the effectiveness of HIMARS in Ukraine has declined due to “heavy blocking” by Russia.
