PORTOVIEJO
A group of citizens took the corpse of a young man and walked him through several remote sectors of the place where he lived. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Monday, November 29, in the El Florón sector, in eastern Portoviejo.
That occurred as an act prior to the burial of Sandy Cedeño Menéndez, who had been murdered inside a house where a wake was being held in the same sector of the Manabi capital, around 00:30 last Sunday.
In several videos that went viral on social networks, it was evident to citizens that, amid shouts and unusual actions, such as spraying the coffin with water mixed with alcohol and marijuana, they carry the body of the young man and put him on a motorcycle.
With the help of two of his friends, the body is taken on a motorcycle to cross roads in the sector.
Likewise, the young man’s farewell was accompanied by rounds of motorcycles around the coffin and even another man got in and lay down in the mortuary box next to the corpse. “He’s my brother, he’s my brother!” The man replied when asked to come out of Cedeño’s coffin to continue the journey to the cemetery in that populous peripheral sector of Portoviejo.
Regarding the death of Cedeño, 21, there are still no detainees, nor have the reasons why he was killed with eight shots while attending a wake have been established.
At dawn last Sunday, two armed men entered a home where a wake was being held and attacked Cedeño.
After the fact, relatives and neighbors of the victim took him to the Verdi Cevallos hospital in Portoviejo, where the doctors of that health home confirmed his death. (I)
