On Sunday, July 3, a traffic jam in front of the Crimean bridge from the Krasnodar Territory broke all summer records, reaching 13 kilometers. According to experts, the reason is the tightening of screening, as well as cheaper holidays in the Crimea compared to the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory, where many beaches are still empty.
The traffic jam began to grow from the evening of July 2. First, a line of 4-5 kilometers formed, the waiting time for inspection at the checkpoint reached two hours, and by Monday morning it had reached 9 km.
According to the FKU Uprdor Taman, which oversees this section of the federal highway, the traffic jam is growing, among other things, due to the abundance of luggage. The more bags and suitcases in the car, the longer it takes specialists at the checkpoints to check it. Before the screening, the queue is divided into two – with manual screening and screening through X-ray.
Maxim Kadakov, editor-in-chief of the Za Rulem publication, said that a manual inspection takes an average of 10-15 minutes.
He also gave some advice to those wishing to go to the Crimea. First of all, you should stock up on water and gasoline in advance. You can also consider the option of the route through Mariupol. If you go to the Southern birches of Crimea or to the west coast, the road will be shorter.
“There are almost no traffic jams: 30-60 minutes at the checkpoint,” Kadakov noted. However, he noted that this road should be passed during the day: due to the current curfew, it is closed from 22:00 to 5:00 in the morning. According to the expert, the quality of roads also leaves much to be desired, and therefore this factor should also be taken into account when planning a trip.
It is noteworthy that despite such inconveniences, the Russians do not cancel previously scheduled tours to the Crimea. As representatives of the tourism industry told the Moscow City News Agency, a traffic jam from the point of view of tourists does not go beyond some kind of road troubles.
“There are no cancellations of tours yet,” said Sergei Romashkin, vice president of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia for domestic tourism.
The Russian Union of Travel Industry also stated that there were no cancellations for tours to Crimea yet. They also recalled that Crimean hotels would not apply sanctions to tourists who were delayed due to traffic jams at the entrance to the Crimean bridge.
