Oversight of Russian investors in Georgia needs to be strengthened. President Salome Zurabishvili told journalists about this, Mtavari TV channel reports.
“There must be control over these Russian business investors, who are sometimes Russians from Russia, sometimes Russians from Cyprus, sometimes Russians from Israel, and sometimes others,” she said.
The President also stated that she intends to block the granting of citizenship to Russians of non-Georgian origin who come to invest in the country. In her opinion, a residence permit is enough for them. At the same time, Zurabishvili added that Russian tourists and emigrants “by themselves” do not pose a threat to the country, Interpressnews reports.
This is not the first time the Georgian president has made such statements. At the end of May, she stated that she did not understand “why measures and fair rules have not been taken against mass arrivals from Russia and their activities, especially in areas such as healthcare and education.”
