Ambato
The danger of people deprived of liberty (PPL) in the Ambato Social Rehabilitation Center (CRSA), is from minimal to low, according to its director, Sebastián Rosero. Therefore, he said, there have been no major inconveniences or incidents in the place compared to those registered in other prisons in the country.
After the last massacre in the Litoral Penitentiary, in Guayaquil, Rosero indicated that they held dialogues with the inmates of the Ambato prison, who agreed not to carry out violent acts.
The official mentioned that they were exposed to the development of workshops in the educational and occupational fields, with the aim of giving them space to rehabilitate and reintegrate into society.
Rosero said that after the massacre that occurred in the Litoral Penitentiary last September and that caused 118 deaths, at least ten inmates belonging to the Los Lobos gang were transferred to the Ambateño prison.
They are under constant monitoring by the police and the Armed Forces.
State of exception in prisons in Ecuador is renewed for 30 more days
The official said that the National Service for Comprehensive Attention to Adults Deprived of Liberty and Adolescent Offenders (SNAI) frequently transfers prisoners, but that this will not be a reason for future riots.
He clarified that the Ambato Social Rehabilitation Center does not receive highly dangerous people deprived of liberty.
Vaccines
The director of the Ambateño penitentiary commented that at least 30 inmates have not yet been vaccinated against COVID-19, due to having presented the flu or some adverse situation on the date they were to receive the dose. 800 people are being held in this prison.
Rosero indicated that he has coordinated with the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) so that the missing prisoners can be inoculated. (I)
