Alexei Melnikov, executive secretary of the Public Monitoring Commission of Moscow, said that General Sergei Surovikin, deputy commander of the joint group of troops in Ukraine, is not being held in any of the pre-trial detention centers. He wrote about this in his Telegram channel.

“I don’t even want to comment on the nonsense about the ‘underground pre-trial detention center in Serebryany Bor’,” he added.

According to Kommersant, Surovikin has not appeared in public since the night of June 23. Since that moment, the publication adds, officials and the press service of the Ministry of Defense have not reported anything about the whereabouts of the general.

Meanwhile, Western media wrote that Surovikin was allegedly being held in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center or in a mansion in Serebryany Bor. The Financial Times noted that he was allegedly detained in connection with the failed rebellion of PMC Wagner. Later, the general’s daughter, Veronika Surovikina, stated that “nothing happened to her father,” no one arrested him, and now “everyone is at their jobs.”

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that questions about the situation around the Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces Sergei Surovikin should be addressed to the Ministry of Defense, this is their prerogative.
