A draft declaration on “security obligations” for Ukraine by the European Union has been prepared. This was reported by the British edition of the Financial Times with reference to the draft document.
According to media reports, the document was prepared by France. It “should be a clear political signal” for Moscow and Kyiv. The declaration will allow the European Union to participate in the creation of a security system for Ukraine, including in cooperation with NATO.
It is assumed that security guarantees for Ukraine will be formalized as bilateral agreements with France, Germany, Great Britain and the United States on long-term financing, military supplies, training of soldiers and the transfer of intelligence.
The text of the draft notes that the EU countries “are ready, together with partners, to contribute to Ukraine’s future security commitments that will help Kiev defend itself in the long term, deter acts of aggression and resist attempts at destabilization,” TASS quoted excerpts.
The project can be approved following the results of the next EU summit, which will be held on June 29-30.
The text of the declaration may be subject to change, the media notes, emphasizing that the current draft has already raised objections from neutral Austria, Ireland and Malta, who want a specific explanation of “security obligations” to Kiev.
