Porridge is not the most healthy dish for breakfast. This is the opinion of the gastroenterologist Olga Glushko, writes MedikForum.
The doctor explained that porridge can be useful for the body only when it is prepared from whole grains, does not contain sugar, dried fruits, candied fruits, honey, syrup. Any sweeteners make a dish heavy – carbohydrates consumed in large quantities on an empty stomach contribute to a significant increase in blood sugar and insulin levels, cause food cravings and overeating, the doctor explained.
According to her, it is especially harmful to use sweetened cereals for those who are diagnosed with insulin resistance, overweight, and diabetes.
In addition, porridges from cereals contain gluten, moreover, porridge recipes often involve the addition of milk. And with gluten intolerance or lactase deficiency, after such a breakfast, well-being may worsen.
The doctor recommends eating foods rich in protein and healthy fats, as well as containing fiber, for breakfast.
