Owners of apartments in Antalya, Turkey, against the backdrop of an outflow of foreigners, many of whom are denied renewal of residence permits, have relaxed requirements for tenants. According to “Prime” with reference to the head of the Chamber of Realtors of Antalya Ismail Caglar, now they are ready to rent out real estate to local residents, and without prepayment for 12 months.

Many foreigners who did not have their residence permit extended were forced to return to their homeland. So, for example, some of the Russians and Ukrainians go to Georgia. According to Caglar, earlier landlords preferred to rent an apartment to a foreigner, demanding a deposit from him for 6 or 12 months. Now, after the departure of foreigners, rent has decreased by 30%.

Realtor Halit Mert noted that the criteria for property owners have changed: now they say “let there be a Turk, let him pay only for one month, so long as the apartment is not empty.”

Earlier, the country’s Central Bank reported that housing prices in Turkey almost tripled over the year. Thus, the largest growth was recorded in Antalya and neighboring Burdur and Isparta – more than 195%, as well as in Edirne, Tekirdag and Kirklareli – about 174%, in Izmir the figure exceeded 170%.

In Istanbul, the index rose by 154%. There, the average cost of 1 square meter in a new apartment in the city is more than 28,000 Turkish liras (more than $1,500).

We also add that the Russians became the leaders among foreigners in buying real estate in Turkey.
