The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, after the statement of the head of state Edgars Rinkevics that Riga, in connection with the recent events in Russia, will not issue humanitarian or other types of visas to Russians, clarified that the issuance of humanitarian visas to citizens of the Russian Federation still continues. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Diana Eglit wrote about this in her social networks.
She pointed out that Latvia would continue to issue humanitarian visas to Russians, but on the basis of previous principles.
At the same time, Eglit emphasized that the desire to obtain it in connection with the latest actions of Wagner PMC cannot become the basis for issuing such a visa.
Earlier, Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics said that the country would stop issuing all types of visas to Russians. According to him, border security has been strengthened, visas or entry through the border for Russians leaving Russia in connection with current events will not be considered.
Recall that on the eve of the Ministry of Defense issued an appeal to the fighters of PMC “Wagner”. Prior to this, the FSB of Russia opened a criminal case after statements appeared on social networks on behalf of Yevgeny Prigozhin about “defense ministry strikes” on the rear camps of the Wagner group. The Center for Public Relations of the Federal Security Service stressed that the information disseminated is not true.
