The Council of the Public Chamber of Russia has elected new members of the Public Monitoring Commission (POC) of Moscow and 42 other regions. According to the press service of the OP, the new composition of the PMC did not include a journalist, a member of the HRC Eva Merkacheva and other human rights activists.

So, according to the results of the elections, Vice-President of the International Committee for Human Rights Ivan Melnikov, human rights activist and journalist, co-chairman of the Moscow Helsinki Group (MHG) Valery Borshchev, founder of the Committee Against Torture, recognized as a foreign agent and dissolved, Igor Kalyapin, also did not get into the PMC.

Georgy Volkov, chairman of the PMC of the previous convocation, Alexey Melnikov, human rights activist, former executive secretary of the PMC and member of the Public Council of the Federal Penitentiary Service, deputy heads of the PMC Nikolai Zuev and Bogdan Ebert, and others were re-elected for a new term.

We add that Merkacheva has been a member of the PMC since 2014. In her Telegram channel, after the publication of the lists, she stated that all journalists were expelled from the PMC, and “real human rights activists” were not elected.
