The Rosselkhoznadzor banned the import of bumblebees from the EU countries due to the lack of confirmation of the epizootic and veterinary and sanitary well-being of insects that are used to pollinate greenhouse plants. This is stated in the release on the website of the department.
It is noted that earlier the Association of Entomologists and Bumblebee Breeders expressed concern about the possibility of importing viruses and pathogens of various diseases with bumblebee families and feed that can harm crops grown in greenhouses, as well as spread among agricultural workers and consumers of products.
In this regard, Rosselkhoznadzor sent a request to the Directorate General of the European Commission for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) to conduct video conversations. No response has been received yet.
The ministry clarified that the restrictive measures in force from June 20 will be in effect until negotiations are held and official guarantees are received for the well-being of the territory of origin of insects, the absence of clinical symptoms in bumblebees before shipment and suspicions of diseases.
