The Naftogaz Ukrainy company has begun the procedure for the forced recovery of $5 billion from Russia as part of the decision of the Arbitration Court in The Hague on compensation for assets in Crimea, the head of the company Oleksiy Chernyshov said on social networks.

According to him, the request for recognition of the decision of the arbitration tribunal in The Hague was filed with the US Federal District Court in the District of Columbia. Ukraine “should receive the full amount of compensation in the amount of $5 billion provided for by the arbitration award,” Chernyshov stressed, noting that the Ukrainian authorities, under the New York Convention, are counting on the enforcement of the award in the territory of states where Russian assets are located.

Recall, on April 13, Naftogaz reported that a tribunal at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague ordered the Russian Federation to pay $5 billion in compensation to a Ukrainian company for damage in Crimea. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that this decision must first be analyzed and then further actions should be determined.
