US senior officials intend to meet with the countries of the Global South that have not condemned Russia’s military operation. Representatives of Brazil, India, China, Turkey, South Africa and a number of other states received invitations, the Financial Times newspaper writes, citing sources.
According to media reports, the meeting will be held in Copenhagen on June 24-25. It will be hosted by Assistant to the President for National Security Jake Sullivan and Assistant Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland.
It is specified that the event is organized at the insistence of Ukraine. Kyiv, with the help of representatives of the United States and the European Union, wants to receive support from these countries, the newspaper notes. The newspaper also reports that the meeting will informally discuss the principles that could form the basis for a peaceful settlement of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. According to media reports, Ukraine and Washington are worried about the fact that the number of Ukraine’s allies is not expanding and the prospect of prolonging the military conflict.
