On the window of my room, love bows or bad mothers, as they are called in the neighborhood, grow beautifully. I am always struck by the completely opposite popular names by which they are known. The fact is that strong branches allow the birth of new plants far from the mother stem, which turn into cascades. Every day I look at them at sunset and greet them when I wake up. In the terrace, they are watered everywhere, between the stones, obscuring the fern, they get space for coins. Extreme rains favored them and they have light green or brown leaves with silvery green inside. Its small bell-shaped flowers are red and pink, and suddenly, as if looking at us, a few yellow ones peek out from the leaves. In the window, they share space with rosemary and thyme, which the cats love, while we had to remove the lemon verbena, so that the cats in the house could walk their fur and perfume themselves without being disturbed by the exquisite scent they love. a plant that smells like lemon and lime.

In the neighborhood, our house is known as Yasuní because of the variety of plants in a small space and because sometimes we let them grow too much…

I love our little native Yasuní, taking care of his plants and watching hummingbirds, canaries, ground pigeons, ants, lizards and fighting mealworms and pests.

I always wonder if on other planets and galaxies there was an ant like the one that carries a weight 10 times its own body with an effort towards its anthill, we would explode with joy at the miracle of life. A miracle of nature that is one of the thousand faces with which we look at the miracle of creation, which we call God. When we establish a relationship with her, everything becomes close. We are grateful for the life he gives us, the plants and animals we eat and the oil, which is his blood according to my neighbors, a blessing and a curse. In his name are corruption, death and poverty, but also wealth. We have not learned to use other energies that do not produce so much death, we know how to observe galaxies, go to other planets of the solar system, but we still do not know how to use solar energy in a practical and efficient way, in a simple and practical way like using a cell phone. Life has survived many catastrophes since beginning with the single large continent of Pangea 230 million years ago, between 75-95% of all species of living things disappeared. “But the Earth kept the seeds (quintillions and quintillions of microorganisms hidden in the soil and safe from any threat). It took the Earth 10 million years to restore biodiversity. He rebuilt it and faced other great extinctions that followed, such as the one 67 million years ago, which wiped out all the dinosaurs after living on Earth for more than 130 million years, and many others,” Leonardo Boff tells us.

Today, we who live in this privileged country are responsible for the health and balance of the planet. What we decide about Yasuní has to do with the future of all of us who spin in this blue dust that is our home. Our collective survival is at stake. (OR)
