The death toll after drinking surrogate alcohol in the Samara region has increased to 12 people. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the data of the regional Ministry of Health.
Previously it was known about ten victims.
The department clarified that one patient remains under the supervision of doctors. His condition is assessed as serious.
As reported, in early June, a wave of surrogate alcohol poisoning swept through several regions of the Volga region. In some cases, these were fatal poisonings. Most of the cases were associated with the use of the alcohol-containing drink “Mr. Cider” produced by the Samara LLC “Andi”.
More than 100 people were reported injured, more than 30 people died.
According to investigators, the poisonous drink could have been made using methyl alcohol, which was allegedly stolen in May from a warehouse of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Samara and then resold.
The suspects in the case of mass poisonings are Dmitry and Alexei Yegorovs, who, in complicity with police officer Ivan Grebenkin, stole 6 tons of methanol from a warehouse and then sold it to Artyom Hayrapetyan, who illegally supplied alcohol to Andy’s owner Anar Huseynov. Aleksey Yegorov has been put on the wanted list. Dmitry Egorov and Grebenkin were arrested until August 8, Airapetyan and Huseynov – until August 4 inclusive.
