19 provinces of Ecuador felt an earthquake; there are no reports of injuries or deaths, according to the National Risk Management Service

After conducting a preliminary evaluation, the National Risk Management Service of Ecuador confirmed after 07:00 this Sunday that no injured or deceased people are reported at the national level due to the strong earthquake.

Five minutes before 06:00, the Ecuadorians got up due to the seismic movement that was sustained. The scare led hundreds to leave their homes in most of the country, especially in the south.

Damage to house and temple structures in Loja and Zamora Chinchipe due to earthquake

The 7.5 magnitude earthquake was registered at 05:52 this Sunday in the Peruvian Amazon, reported the National Seismological Center of Peru on its social networks. The entity indicated that the movement had a depth of 131 km and was located 98 km east of Santa María de Nieva in Condorcanqui, Amazonas, northern jungle of Peru. The Geophysical Institute of Ecuador placed it at 7.3.

The National Risk Management Service reported that 19 provinces of the country felt the earthquake: Zamora Chinchipe, Tungurahua, Sucumbíos, Santa Elena, Pichincha, Pastaza, Manabí, Morona Santiago, Los Ríos, Loja, Guayas, El Oro, Cañar, Bolívar, Napo, Orellana, Cotopaxi, Chimborazo and Azuay.

Loja and Zamora Chinchipe were the southern provinces where the movement was strongly felt, according to citizen reports. Precisely in these two provinces damage to housing infrastructure was recorded.

Scare in Ecuador due to the sustained earthquake that was felt this Sunday

A house was destroyed after the earthquake in Saraguro and a family was damaged. He also confirmed the damage to a church tower in Loja. In the province of Zamora Chinchipe, damage to the masonry of several houses and the collapse of a house were recorded.

In Chordeleg, canton of Azuayo, the structural collapse of a house in the Pushio stream sector was reported.

Police officers indicated that they interviewed residents of the sector and they stated that the structure was about to collapse, as it had structural damage. The home was abandoned.

Chordeleg Fire Department personnel said that it was the total collapse of the house, there were no people affected in the place, only material damage.

In Cuenca, capital of Azuay, after the earthquake a landslide was reported in the Petroecuador sector. Local authorities coordinate the cleaning of the sector.

The National Risk Management Service indicated that it continued to monitor the situation and urged the population to remain calm. In addition, he remembered having the emergency backpack on hand. (I)
