Some habits do not allow you to quickly fall asleep and get a good night’s sleep. In an interview with MedikForum, general practitioner Irina Andreeva listed such habits.
First of all, she advised not to do active exercises before bed. Regular exercise is good for health. It improves the quality of sleep because enough exercise promotes deep sleep. However, the expert stressed, several hours should pass between training and sleep.
Also, don’t eat spicy food before bed. “Spicy food also stimulates blood circulation and makes it difficult to fall asleep,” the doctor explained.
Andreeva also warned against drinking alcohol. Those who drink alcohol in the evening often sleep more restlessly, it is more difficult for them to fall into a deep sleep, the expert clarified.
Finally, the doctor advised me to avoid smartphones, tablets, TVs before bed. The bluish light of the instruments interferes with the internal clock. This tricks the brain into thinking it’s daytime and thus may result in less of the sleep hormone melatonin being released. It is also better not to watch TV before going to bed, the expert concluded.
