The Ministry of Digital Development and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation have begun discussing the issue of banning parallel imports of heavy computer equipment from unfriendly countries that have competitive Russian counterparts, as well as Samsung and LG mobile equipment, since there are similar Chinese products on the market. This was told to TASS by the head of the Ministry of Digital Development Maksut Shadayev.
The departments are currently discussing a ban on parallel imports of heavy computer equipment, he said. This, in particular, is about servers and storage systems from “unfriendly” countries. Shadayev clarified that now parallel imports are allowed for them, and the ministries are discussing the introduction of restrictions on parallel imports of those computer equipment for which there are competitive Russian counterparts.
In addition, a ban on the parallel import of smartphones, Samsung and LG mobile devices is being considered, because there are Chinese analogues. At the same time, the ban on parallel import of the iPhone is not discussed.
In turn, the source of the agency clarified that Samsung has not stopped and will continue to service devices purchased by users in the Russian Federation. According to the interlocutor, the company continued to serve and support Russian customers even with the suspension of sales.
