In the course of the counter-offensive, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have not yet achieved success. This fact was recognized by the former adviser to the head of the Pentagon, Colonel Douglas McGregor, in an interview with the YouTube channel Judging Freedom.
“I will tell you that no success has been achieved, since everything in the Ukrainian counteroffensive is tied to the ability to get to the main line of defense, break through it and move on to achieve such an important goal as Melitopol,” McGregor said, quoted by RBC.
According to the military analyst, senior fellow at the Institute for Foreign Policy Studies Rob Lee, the main risk for the Ukrainian army in a counteroffensive is that the Armed Forces of Ukraine may lose strength before they get to the main line of defense equipped by Russia, he is quoted by Reuters. The expert believes that for both sides of the conflict, this confrontation will be reduced to exhaustion.
Earlier, on June 11, the Russian Defense Ministry announced unsuccessful attempts to attack Ukraine in the Zaporizhia, Donetsk, and Yuzhno-Donetsk directions.
At the same time, CNN reported, citing a source in the Ukrainian command, that there was no talk of a full-scale offensive yet – “reconnaissance in force” was underway. The Washington Post wrote that while Ukraine operates with a small share of reserves, a larger blow has not yet been dealt.
Recall that Ukraine has announced the preparation of a counteroffensive for the past few months.
